Description
I created this route because I have no interest in just walking down the main road full of cars. Half this route is rural and the unavoidably urban part has some interesting views

06 Aug 2022The route soon leaves the main road from the pub at Foulridge along a gravel road, past a school and through a field. There is a boardwalk, crossing a potentially boggy patch next to a spur of the reservoir, and then, after a kissing gate, you walk along a gravel road across the reservoir. (This was exceptionally low and dry at the time I walked it.)
After crossing the road there is a playground and park as you head into the suburban streets. You start to get views of Colne’s sloping terraces of houses, which always fascinate me with their longitudinally sloping roofs.
Housing streets lead to an alley with a cycle barrier and down to the main road. This can be crossed via pedestrian lights, and then you walk back uphill to arrive at the main shopping street opposite Colne Cemetery, with its symmetrical church-style entrance and the grave of Wallace Hartley, band leader on the Titanic.
I thought this was a pleasant and interesting walk, superior to the more direct road route of FouCol One.
