Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

17 Nov 2023Lovely virtually flat walk with coffee shops either end! There is a railway crossing (not a bridge) that is located at Formby golf course and some slopes within the woods that may restrict accessibility. Starting the walk from Freshfields station is an option.

12 Feb 2022Sunny, windy day, February. Walked Southport to Formby, have cycled opposite direction many times. Very pleasant, very safe, no obstructions. Mostly tarmac or paved path with a signicant section on forest road through Ainsdale woods. Pleasant surroundings, mainly dunes and woods with some urban. There is a railway bridge to cross near Formby, ok for wheels, a few low pitched steps. Stations at Southport, Freshfield and Formby. For leisure Formby to Southport might be best with the prevailing wind and sun at the rear. Max gradient 14%, all slopes are short.
