I walked this route from Hampstead Heath to Finchley Central. I really really enjoyed the walk: Hampstead Heath is gorgeous, as are some of the other green spaces on the way. There’s a lot about this route to commend.

Still, I can’t verify, because there are one too many inaccuracies: the paths through Hampstead Heath are very difficult to follow, the route is drawn crossing a field that doesn’t really work in the north Heath Extension, the crossing of the Mutton Brook doesn’t exist as drawn, and you can’t get through the Glenhill Close from the Stephens House. I’ll upload a route alternative that addresses these issues.

A good varied walk. I walked from Finchley to Hampstead. You can't go down Glenhill Close, just go to the next road to walk around. The pavements in Finchley are narrow and uneven, squished between large trees and hedges. Then comes Hampstead Heath beautiful, steep and rooty paths quite hard to follow exactly but if you head in the general direction you will get to your destination (the route for Breham across the Heath is close by and easier to follow and walk, orange dots on the OS maps). There are toilets and water fountain about half way.

As a route this was very good. It was interesting and adventurous, with abundant unique natural features such as swamp, ponds, forest, and fields. However, the greatest challenge facing this route is signage. It is easy to get lost even while looking at an online map in Hampstead Heath, as many of the pathways do not appear. This is true also for Sandy Heath. Additionally, it is certain that vast sections of this path would be unwalkable during/after mild rain. I would recommend resting at a bench in the Heath extension, because there aren't really any rest areas past that point.

Pleasant route with lots of greenery. A little tricky to stay enroute due to the number of junctions to stay on the direct path but easy to follow in terms of the map. A gate was closed (potentially to the general public only) at Avenue House Grounds but it was easy enough to navigate around.
