Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

09 Aug 2022Walked in summer: far nicer than the main A-road which is unsuitable for all but the bravest pedestrians. Tree lined, shady and only a little longer than the main road.
Winter: cycled the route, was not too boggy with fallen leaves mud etc. The surface has been improved with gravel.
Theres a shop where the route crosses the road at Three Legged Cross.

13 Jun 2022A popular route as the major part follows the Castleman trail, a former railway line. There is a short distance on lanes at Ringwood plus use of a bridge under the A31 that links two sections of the Castleman trail. A much longer road section is between West Moors and Ferndown and makes use of a bridge over the A31. This road section could be avoided by use of the X6 bus service. The Castleman trail is a wide flat path mainly flanked by trees that provide shade on sunny days. It is also popular with cyclists as well as walkers. There are several options along the route to exit the path such as Moors Valley Country Park which has a cafe & facilities for walkers & cyclists.

29 Oct 2021The walk is Ringwood to West Moors to Ferndown.
First bit, exiting Ringwood, is alongside the A31 trunk road, not so good, but walkers quickly move onto the Castleman Trail, an old railway line and the 4m walk to West Moors is a lovely tree-lined wide flat trail that can be done by disabled people. You can also exit north onto Ashley Heath for further walks.
West Moors to Ferndown is all pavement alongside fairly busy roads, okay, but nothing special.
Far better to continue along the Castleman Trail along the disused railway route through the wooded areas all the way down to Poole.
