02 Aug 2023The canal (southern) section of this route is lovely, including seeing the canal cross the River Tame below, on an acqueduct. The part in Kettlebrook is less pleasant. On reaching the centre of Tamworth I would use the subways to stay in the park on the south side of the River Anker, for pleasant views and arriving opposite the impressive castle, before crossing over the footbridge into the town centre.

16 Nov 2022 (edited 17 Nov 2022)Walked from Tamworth to Fazeley, starting at just after dawn as the first part of a long walk to Sandwell & Dudley via Sutton Coldfield, Great Barr and West Bromwich. This route is short, direct and easy - the canal sections are pleasant, and the rest is direct and the road crossings are fairly safe.
Leaving the meeting point in Tamworth, we head east along George Street then right down Mill Lane and Saxon Mill Lane to the roundabout. We follow the inner ring road around two roundabouts (parts of this road have no pavement, but there are wide grass verges). We go left at the third, the B5000 Glascote Road, then turn right before the viaduct and follow Kettlebrook Road down to the canal, which is accessed from the left (east) side of the bridge. We follow the canal right, crossing an aqueduct and climbing the ramp to the A4091, which we follow down to the Fazeley meeting point.

23 Dec 2021Walked Tamworth to Fazeley on a dry dull December day. Easy walking and safe road crossings but the exit from Tamworth could be improved if slightly longer via the castle and river side gardens. I say this as a tourist so locals may prefer this direct road route. No stiles and good surfaced paths with tarmac or compacted stone. The dead end Kettlebrrok Road offers a decent exit from Tamworth with interest for Fools and Horses fans, a blue plaque marks the spot where the first Reliant van was made in 1934. Water, the Coventry canal, over water, the River Tame offers another point of interest to this short and recommended Slow Way.

27 Aug 2021Route along the canal was great, some walking along relatively busy roads unavoidable to get into the centre of Tamworth, suggest using the underpass where possible. Overall decent Slow Way.

13 Jun 2021Having walked from Fazeley to Tamworth before on a number of occasions and never followed this route I had some misgivings but they were soon dispelled. The route crosses Watling Street from the meeting spot past what would actually be a better meeting spot with benches next to a memorial and then crosses the road from Tamworth to join the Coventry Canal. The canal itself is well used and friendly. The relaxing route crosses a number of aqueducts from which you get some nice views, including as you cross the Tame. As you get to Kettlebrook you pick up a quiet road which eventually comes out at "The Lamb" the home of Tamworth FC. From there the route is noisy although direct as you make your way to the meeting place at the centre of town. There is an option to use subways but I appreciated the ease with which I could follow the route into Tamworth.
