Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Nov 2022This route has little going for it. It is not safe (walking along the main A3052 is for the foolhardy), nor especially scenic (other than the early river section and crossing Venn Ottery common) nor is it direct. The section through Exeter, whilst direct, is tedious. There are many better options that win either on being scenic or on being direct.

30 Apr 2022Unfortunately this route has two parts that are not safe enough to recommend. We managed to walk them, but at other times and seasons they would be very dangerous indeed. One part is a section of verge/road walking along the A3052 and the other is crossing under the railway on Sidmouth Road (where there is no path or controlled lights to allow pedestrian access).
This is a gorgeous route that I thoroughly enjoyed walking. It goes through some glorious and varied countryside and makes use of some great tracks.
It would be great if the council created a safe walking route parallel to the A3052 to unlock a route via The Cat & Fiddle.
I'll be suggesting an alternative route for someone to try.
