Description
Esher to Kingston via Thames Ditton and Surbiton, finishing with a stretch along the riverside, then through Kingston marketplace to the meeting point at Kingston station.
The aim is that, with the exception of Surbiton High Street, there should be minimum 'A' and 'B' road walking, and maximum footpaths, parks, commons, woodland and riverside. I enjoy these challenges and I think I've come up with a pleasant route that ticks all the Slow Ways boxes!
The main difference between this route and the existing ones which go via Hampton Court is that a) the existing ones have a long stretch of 'B' road walking between Esher station and Hampton Court, which this one avoids, and b) this route keeps to the south side of the river and passes through the centre of Surbiton, by the railway station; it doesn't go by Hampton Court and Bushy Park. But it does have some riverside walking between Surbiton and Kingston for riverside fans!
Paths through woodland and commons may be muddy, but generally it's comfortable underfoot, with only a small change in elevation as the land drops from Esher to the river.
Good refreshments at Surbiton, and some lovely pubs on the way too

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
