Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

15 Feb 2024I enjoyed this route. Avery Hill Park is pleasant and as Daisy says it's best to follow the surfaced path to the top of Sparrow Lane. This was a little muddy (February). The footbridge over the A20 has sloping steps. The footpath off Imperial Way and the north end of Kemnal Road (Home Farm) was fairly muddy. I cut through the woods at Chislehurst Common to get to bus stop P for the 162 bus to Bromley.
Shops at New Eltham and opposite Chislehurst Memorial. Toilets inside ticket barriers (usually open) at Eltham Station. Accessible toilet in New Eltham Library.

08 Sep 2022 (edited 29 Sep 2022)An enjoyable route mixing 'rural' and suburban ambiences, there were even horses grazing alongside the Chislehurst paths. Football fans might be interested in the Charlton Athletic training grounds just south of Avery Hill Park, which has been restored to grassy meadows from municipal grass.
Navigation tweaks:
From Eltham Station to Glenesk Road has closely spaced turns and junctions, it's fiddly to navigate and uninspiring. Easier and more pleasant to use Glenlea Rd then alongside Eltham Park S.
The mapped route (using OS basemap) doesn't show Avery Hill Park's paths well. On branching wooded paths at north end follow Green Chain signs, not London Loop!
Diagonal path across meadow is often not visible. Simpler to follow clear path (not shown on OS map) around S&W sides.
At the Chislehurst Memorial end of Kemnal Road is a parallel woodland footpath which is well worth it.
Would be 5/5 if not for the above.
Hopefully I'll get round to uploading some of my photos.
