20 Jan 2024A pretty functional route through the outer suburbs. Mainly residential streets, with not much in the way of greenery, but a pretty easy going walk that felt direct in terms of getting you to Finchley Central.
The route passes through areas with shops, so it's easy to re-supply on the way. There are toilets at Broadwalk Centre shopping mall in Edgware, and cafes and a petrol station on route, with a chip shop at Salcombe Gardens.
I checked the path that links Page Street to Pursley Road that another reviewer mentioned and it's a really good alternative to joining Pursley Road from the roundabouts at the end of Bunns Lane. The path is an old railway track. It's a largely mud and track ballast path, but the walk through the woods was a good break from the streets. I assume the mapped route favours accessibility, but I think the rail path is a really good alternative route for those who want it.
On accessibility, nothing was locked or otherwise closed off. The church yard at the end of the route is always open. The whole route was paved or tarmacked although this was uneven and broken at points. There were no major inclines, although the route got a little steeper towards the Finchley end. Farm Road Park near Edgware has gates at both ends, although these aren't locked. The path is very narrow as Bunns Lane passes under the M1, and the cars get pretty close at speed. The traffic generally in this area is a little difficult to navigate.

21 Mar 2023I walked this Slow Way from Finchley Central to Edgware. It's along quite a few suburban streets but they are generally not bad streets! The section just after (or before!) Finchley is really nice, off road and goes through a tucked away churchyard. It looks like there is a path which goes behind the Chase Lodge Playing Field and Dollis Junior School, which would avoid a section of the busy Pursley Road. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to explore this potential alternative but maybe another Slow Way walker can check it out!.

16 May 2021Three stars as suburban pavement walking can be uninspiring, but the route is good. Good wide pavements most of the way, some narrow, although just wide enough for most wheelchairs. Some busy roads to cross. Quite steep near Finchley Central tube. Dollis Valley Green walk crosses this route. I might be tempted to walk under the viaduct rather than the back streets.
