Description

This route is the same as the excellent Edahat(one) between Hathersage and Hope. However it has been drawn up to offer an alternative to those who may find the climb up and down Hollins Cross between Hathersage and Edale a little challenging. This route is a little longer and does include some road walking but generally keeps to paths along the river and has nothing like the hight climbed as Edahat(one). There is one section of the path which is on a permissive path and is not too clear. But that apart navigation was straight forward as it is well signed

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

18 Oct 2024 Autumn

I walked this route in mid-October, after heavy rain. It is almost a 5* route in my opinion. But I had to mark it down because of a section of about 50 metres which was particularly muddy and took some negotiating. Whether it is always or often like this or not I'm not sure. It had rained and cows in the field had churned it up. This section is at OS Grid Ref: SK 167 860 near to where the footpath meets the road at Normans Farm about a mile and a half north of Hope. It is a shame as the rest of this path was in good condition. Otherwise the route was excellent. There are opportunities for refreshments in Hope with pubs, cafes and shops. It is possible to avoid this by walking along the road between this road crossing and Nether Booth Farm. This road was fairly quiet when I walked it - in midweek, I suspect that it is busier at the weekend. The road is not paved for the most part. Although I always felt safe walking along it. The route between Hope and Hathersage is the same as Edahat(one). It really is a lovely riverside walk, most enjoyable, the lanes you do walk on are very quiet.. This walk could well merit a higher grading than 3* if the previous days weather had been fairer and the path not quite so muddy. Hopefully later reviewers can confirm this.
