Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Mr Neil Hartley

The walk from Chorley is straightforward enough and then becomes quite pleasant as you enter Copper Works Wood near before Yarrow Valley Way. Track will get muddy during wet weather, steps in places down the slopes. Becomes more of a hiking route as is progresses to cross Park Hall Road (very narrow due to overgrowth where the route crosses the railway line with lots of stiles etc to climb over. I'm a seasoned hiker and trail runner but the section beyond the field after Park Hall Road was so overgrown with brambles that the gap narrowed to nothing and was impassable. My legs and arms were bleeding and I abandoned the route here and completed it via Park Hall Road and Wood Lane. I'd suggest rerouting this section. I'd also consider a more direct route between Yarrow Valley Way and the railway line crossing.

A route I've ran/hiked many a time with a few variations as this is my doorstep with also my footpaths. When I was hiking I did catch myself thinking "I wouldn't come this way", especially the bit through Spring Wood. Quite overgrown & muddy but still straight forward enough and there is the option to stay on the 'metalled road' (footpath).
