Description
This route is over 20% longer than EalWem 3 but they are both fairly short and that only comes to 0.5mi / 0.75km extra. The increase helps it to spend two and half times longer off road compared to EalWem 3. West Walk (a calm, traffic free lane) is on both routes and this version adds two decent sized parks, Hanger Hill and One Tree Hill; the former has a hybrid football/golf course and a small kiosk selling ice-cream, the latter has especially good views. The roads should be quieter overall too, particularly as it doesn't follow the A4089 part of Ealing Road between Alperton Station and Wembley. (Reviewers of EalWem 3 did enjoy the hustle and character there but you do still get some of that in central Wembley). Sadly both walks share some of the dreary A4005 (Hanger Lane then Ealing Road) which I think was unavoidable, but at least it adds some mid-route bus connections plus eating and shopping options.
I designed the new route on the fly as the EalWem 3 route was verified several years ago and I was curious if a new approach could be better. The author of that had been attempting to follow an earlier design which hadn't been quite possible to use: I had the freedom to find a new way that suited me. I think this is a good job given the constraints of several huge roads, two waterways and a train line. I've put more details about it in my review
