Durwot two

I have made the following changes to Durwot One (2021-04-07):
Head west down the High Street then turn south past the library and bus station, the excellent Old Spot Inn, and up the very low-traffic single-track lane of The Broadway. This is a steep ascent, so an asphalt surface is important for accessibility. The route then turns east into Hermitage Wood, following the contour of the top of the Cotswold escarpment parallel to another lane (this is busier, as it forms the road access to the golf course). Then head south down the steep Warend Hill and along the single-track lanes through Millend and into North Nibley - these are again very quiet and low-traffic. (This avoids the exceptionally bumpy, steep rocky bridleway of Breakheart Hill by the New Inn, which is unusable for wheelchairs and offroad scooters - see Durwot 3 for that less accessible alternative)
Approaching North Nibley from the east, you pass the well-recommended community cafe and shop, and the Black Horse Inn which is hopefully back in business by the time you read this. Joining the Cotswold Way, a gentle offroad track with a generally good surface climbs back up the Cotswold hills to the Tyndale Monument, celebrating the local resident who first translated the Latin Bible to English and gave us many modern sayings. Then a generally flat and smooth offroad surface takes you through Westridge Wood, as far as Adey's Lane which is again a very low-traffic single-track paved route down the steep hill to Wotton-under-Edge, and more accessible than the steps and stiles associated with the Cotswold Way. At the bottom of the lane you pass the town's famous almshouses and St. Mary's Church before finding the bus stop opposite the war memorial. A visit to one of the many coffee shops or pubs just around the corner on Long Street is in order!
