20 May 2023Easy (mostly flat) route to Stroud. Bit muddy in places (been quite wet before we did it so only to be expected). Just a couple of tips 1) when leaving Dursley you walk through a new housing estate. You leave the housing estate by walking down what feels like (and in fact is) someone's driveway walking to the left of their house on to a small hill behind their house (it is a very well established route just not super obvious from the housing estate side). 2) about half way through or so there is a point where the route - just after crossing a stream on a farm track- would lead through a farm/farm yard. In fact it's much easier and marked as such to walk round the farm to the right (coming from Dursley direction) bringing you out in exactly the same place after the farm (the farm yard was full of cows so was not obvious we could have got through that way anyway!).

20 Apr 2023An easy flat walk. Some of the stiles were difficult to use due to large puddles after a wet April. At the beginning walking through Littlecombe, the St Modwen estate you need to make sure not to miss a footpath connection. We asked for help. Further on at a farm a new path has been created to take you around rather than through the farmyard.

02 May 2021A utilitarian route which is almost entirely flat! Particularly the section along the canal which is entirely wheelchair accessible. There is that strange glitch from Stanley Downton to Kings Stanley (or vice versa) which can be cut off by continuing along the road a little more. The short sections along roads are reasonable - more than half have a pavement or verge but there are some sections where caution will be necessary (narrow roads, high hedges, no pavement/verge, twisting route). Away from the canal and the roads there are numerous kissing gates, gates, stiles and width-restricted plank bridges which would, I judge, make this walk very difficult for pushchairs and very large dogs which couldn't be lifted over stiles and impossible for wheelchairs. Paths coming into/leaving villages can be difficult to locate and one section is poorly signposted with electric fences crossing the path/s. Some calm cows and inquisitive sheep. Beautiful scenery!.
