Description

An alternative to the excellent DULWHE(one) route. Includes a beautiful walk along the river Barle in and out of Dulverton and visits the delightful village of Windford with a selection of refreshment options, cafes and pubs. The route does have a long steep section to the north of Marsh Bridge, but generally the walking is fairly easy and pleasant. The route in and out of Wheddon Cross is shared with DULWHE(one)

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

A very pretty route with a couple of steep climbs and a few styles. Lovely views from the trig point and it's downhill from there!.

Lovely section along river Barle, followed by a steep stony climb where there are great views of Exmoor. Some quiet country lanes on the way to Winsford, a pretty village on route which is ideal for a lunch or coffee break.

A lovely walk, mostly along marked footpaths, bridleways and some sections along very quiet country lanes. The hilly sections provide stunning views over the Exmoor. No stiles along the route, just gates and kissing gates.

This is a delightful walk, mostly along well marked footpaths and bridleways., with some sections along very quiet country lanes - which felt safe to walk along. there are hilly sections, but these provide for stunning views over the Exmoor countryside. There are riverside sections through the woods along the Barle and a pleasant section in and out of Wheddon Cross. The visit to Winsford provides access to pubs and cafes, making for a great place for a break. There were gates and kissing gates but no stiles along the route. The only negative experience was that the bus scheduled for the return trip to Dulverton failed to turn up - speaking to locals this is a regular happening so a contingency needs to be planned in. Ours was to walk back.
