16 Nov 2021Having completed the route and posted a survey, I wanted to elaborate on the route.
By GPS I recorded the route as 5.50 mi long
There are 11 stiles, 1 field gate, 2 pedestrian gates, plus cycle barriers and a series of steps.
Devizes is a fine medieval town
The section from the start to Drews Pond is pavement, and multiple steps.
The track up to One Tree Hill is muddy through heavy foot traffic, but one at the top, ( providing the weather is good ) the views in all directions is great.
There is then the first stile, and then a very short steep path down through overgrown woods, where walking pole/s are highly recommended. Beware, if you fall to your left, it is a 20 metre fall down a very steep slope.
Thereafter are fields, tracks, bridlepaths etc.
If you are undertaking a one way linear walk, the bus service back to Devizes are reasonably frequent, but the bus stops in M L need careful attention as to which side of the road to stand to get on specific timed buses.
I would have given a review of 5 stars, but for the steep slippery slope mid section. There are no other credible alternatives avoiding this section.

04 Oct 2024Having posted this review, I have now looked at the area where the slippery slope exists, and have been able to re-plot an alternative route, which avoids the short steep section in favour of a two bridle path section. The increase in distance has been partially mitigated by changes close to Market Lavington.
I will upload this route as Devimar two
