04 Jun 2023I walked in the other direction having caught the bus to Market Lavington and then back to Devizes. The footpath off Parsonage Lane is hard to find. I think the views are slightly better in this direction, the hills being a mixture of tress and fields rather then mainly trees. I walked my suggested diversion to avoid fields with inquisitive bullocks by going via Crookwood Farm, a lovey thatched farm house with a duck pond. This is along a grassy track, a wider gravel track and a fairly quiet road. I intended to use the shorter steeper scramble which this route avoids but was thwarted by cows in the field so walked up the zigzag.
A very pleasant walk.

26 May 2023A very pleasant route through the outskirts of Devizes, past a nature reserve and up to enjoy extensive views before dropping down to cross lower meadowland, then climbing up again and weaving a way through lesser known parts of Easterton and Market Lavington.
Most of the route is along footpaths, tracks and quiet country lanes, well sign-posted and easy to follow. The hills are not steep. If walking from Market Lavington to Devizes, the start of the path to Easterton is well hidden.
The early section of the meadowland is poorly signposted, paths are nowhere to be seen and the ways through hedges are not easy to find or sometimes to negotiate. There were overly inquisitive bullocks in the first field when I walked in late May. All this section can be avoided by using quiet roads and tracks via Crookwood Farm, though I have not walked this stretch.
I would thoroughly recommend this route. The tricky section mentioned is the only reason that I have given it four, not five stars.

18 Jan 2022This route is a safer option to Devimar one, avoiding the steep slope at Grubbe's Wood ( SU009 585 ). Overall it is no longer than Devimar one, recorded by GPS at 5.62 mi.
There are sections which are very heavily horse/foot trafficked which in winter makes them very muddy and slippery. There are approx 8 stiles, 1 timber bridge, 1 set of 20 steps, and a couple of kissing/pedestrian gates. At time of walk there was no livestock, or cereal crops present.
