Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

13 Apr 2024 (edited 14 Apr 2024)Walked from Desborough to Rothwell. A good quiet direct route, muddy in places.
The route is very short and simple - just take the path right of the church, follow it out to the B576, follow a pavement for a few yards and take another field path that takes you most of the way into Rothwell. There is one point where you have to leave a lane to go left into a field that could be missed. There were fences around the edge of the field south of Desborough but no obstacle to the exit. There was mud in several places, but nothing very deep, so I wouldn't recommend this as a route for wheels.

06 Oct 2023As others have said, the gate through the hedge down by the river and road can be *very* wet for a large part of the year.

19 Aug 2023This is a pleasant route between the 2 towns. It crosses the Ise Valley using public footpaths with a little bit of Road.
The route passes the War Memorial in Desborough, then the church (Commonwealth War Grave and Memorial Garden) before dropping slightly down hill, crossing a stream and into a field that often has some docile ponies in it. Take the right fork and pass through the hedge to reach the road. 25m after the bridge over the Ise take the signed path through the kissing gate. As you pass through the next hedge it may be very wet underfoot depending on the recent weather patterns. Head diagonally uphill on a clear path (occasional cattle with calves and sheep) to the next gate. Up through 3 crop fields with sticky clay in wet weather to a kissing gate. The path crosses this field continuing south to enter a small lane. It exits the lane just before some garages to follow a clear path/alley then Road down into Rothwell centre. Emerge into market square and possibly enjoy an ale in The Red Lion.
I recommend this route as it’s so much better than slogging along the road.

18 Jul 2023Simple and straightforward route between Desborough and Rothwell if you don't want to walk down the main road!
I have given it 4 stars really only because it isn't too adventurous, but it is difficult to get too 'wow' on a short walk!
The map is accurate - there is building work scheduled but it doesn't impact on the route. It is safe with a couple of short although steep hills to navigate. You pass through kissing gates and a style, and over a narrow bridge with high step up to and down from it.
I use this walk regularly as part of longer walks in the area.
