Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

04 Feb 2023Walked Romiley-to-Denton.
A surprising amount of variety in this suburb-to-suburb route: you start with a steep walk up a residential street to get the blood pumping and achieve an impressive view over towards Manchester, then it's farm tracks, pasture, a few stiles, and a bit of the Peak Forest Canal in the middle.
Accessibility thoughts: as mentioned, there are stiles and pasture can be muddy. There is also a narrow, uneven flight of stone steps which have to be negotiated to get onto the canal towpath. There may be animals in pastures, and one farm track runs through a yard with horses, so keep dogs on leads.
GPX: it cuts a couple of corners, but if you're using it with something like OpenStreetMap it will be obvious where the footpath really goes. When I walked it (Feb 2023) there was also a 'Diversion' sign on one section of footpath due to works being carried out by the council - in the section which passes by the Morrel's Woodfinishes plant on this map, you will instead have to go along Lambeth Grove. I didn't think any of these issues were severe enough to warrant re-submitting the route to fix them, though.
Why isn't it 5 stars?: You have to cross the A6017 at some point, and there are no pedestrian crossings in that area, which is a shame. The road is 40mph becoming 30mph a little north of there, and can be busy.
