Description

This is a good way to walk from Dawlish to Topsham, taking in great views of the sea and the Exe estuary.

It is nearly identical to Dawtop One, but avoids using part of the South West Coast Path which is currently closed between Dawlish and The Rockstone

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Good route overall with some lovely views along the way. I cycled so had to divert a little when leaving Dawlish. If you plan on cycling it, instead of following the coast path just use National Cycle Rte 2 for a small stretch at the beginning. Other than that, the path is entirely cycle friendly. Had a nice chat with the skipper (John) on the ferry at the end.

This is a good route with some great views. I love looking at the changing colours across the Exe and all the birds in the estuary.

It's mostly on paths, but there is a small section where you need to walk on the road. It wasn't a problem though.

I've created this route as an alternative to Dawtop One while the South West Coast Path is closed through part of Dawlish.

It's not as tranquil and quaint as the other side of the Exe, but it has its own charms. Ice cream, sea views, the Exe estuary, reed beds, deer, pubs and shops. There's also suburbs, country estates, some lane walking, trains and the ferry to/from Topsham over the river.

I love the expansive reviews across the ever-changing estuary.

There are steps on this route. Someone might be able to design a version that is far more accessible.

The sea wall has now been re-opened between coastguard cottages' bridge and Rockstone Bridge although it is still necessary to cross the line at coastguard cottages bridge and approach the station through Lanherne and Richmond Place. Intended date for the re-opening of this short final section is 23 July 2022.
