Description

Alternative based on a suggestion by Porcolovente in their review of DalBet 1. It doesn't use the Regents Canal path (nor adjacent Andrew Road) instead heading south by keeping west of the railway line in Bethnal Green. Also uses the suggested paths through London Fields

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

06 Aug 2025 (edited 08 Aug 2025) Summer

Walked on a sunny summer weekday afternoon. Pleasant, straightforward and short. There was very low traffic, and often no traffic with the exception of Pritchard's Road which was somewhat busy but not oppressive, it was interesting to see the buildings erected within the old Gas Works frame.

I didn't tarry much but another time I'd have enjoyed a stop at the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve (Sat only), the weather was perfect for visiting the London Fields Lido, and Broadway Market cafes and independent shops seem like a popular destination, it was buzzing even on a non-market-day. On the other hand I can imagine both L Fields and Broadway sometimes being too crowded for some and certainly for efficient walking purposes.

I'd just walked the BetCan 2 Slow Way from Canary Wharf to Bethnal Green which I enjoyed hugely, especially the canal so in retrospect maybe DalBet 1 would have suited me more. It would have been satisfying to find an even straighter off-piste route through London Fields, but unfortunately thats blocked by railings outside the Lido. It fulfils the design criteria well enough, my 4 stars are unashamedly subjective as I was underwhelmed, perhaps in contrast to BetCan 2.

Photos are out of chronological order but somewhat like the reverse of my walk, so starting from Dalston. Locations seem ok on the map view Photos option.
