Description

This route avoids Dagenham Central Park which is undergoing major works from 2021 to 2024, maybe longer and means that DagRom 1 could be un-usable. It is half a mile longer but more than half is through green spaces, compared to under a fifth of DagRom 1. It goes through The Chase nature reserve plus Eastbrookend Country Park (ECPk) and a couple of smaller green spaces. The landscape includes woodland, meadows, riverside paths and small lakes as well as recreational parks and (mostly) quieter residential roads.

The first road section from Dagenham Heathway to the top of Pondfield Park and is the same as DagRom 1. Between Victoria Rd and Pondfield Rd it cuts through the Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club carpark which seems to be open 24hrs/day, although match days could be busy. There are other, probably more scenic ways through ECPk, the SE quadrant looks promising but has some very twisting and branching paths. This route however should be straightforward to follow and goes past the ECPk visitor centre where there's a cafe and toilets, the most central rest-point on the route.

There is also a cafe and public toilets at the Queens Hospital on Rom Valley Way, and possibly at the football club. The 103, 252, 174 bus routes all intersect with the middle third of this route

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
