Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Aug 2024A great walk that was easy to follow. We started at North Walsham train station and walked to Cromer. It was fairly flat and easy. We were a group of 8. The walk did not present too many challenges. The only part that was tricky was a quite overgrown footpath along the top of the cliff at Cromer and the stairs down needed some repair - otherwise a great walk in the countryside ending at the beach.

01 Aug 2024Walked this route starting at North Walsham. A pleasant start through the town, followed by a short section on a relatively busy and narrow road. Don't let this put you off, it is only around 500m. The route encompasses passing through pretty villages, copse, fields, the beach and paths through farmland. There is plenty of shade. There are few opportunities for refreshments along the way, especially if you start early in the morning and the pubs are not open. The route is mostly flat and the terrain is not difficult to walk on. I would classify this as an easy walk, assuming you are used to the distance/time on feet.
Should you decide to download the gpx file I would suggest that at the point marked as "Warren Farm" on Google Maps that you turn right, rather than left. Then you take a public footpath which is on your left. The route on the gpx file for this section is pretty much impassible. See photo below. Yellow line is the public footpath.

15 May 2024This walk from North Walsham to Cromer was a joy! We were a group of eight and thoroughly enjoyed the route. We particularly enjoyed the variety of terrain, including well signposted bridle ways, footpaths, woodland and the beach!
My only criticism would be the short stretch of main road you have to walk when exiting North Walsham before turning off at Swafield.
The elevation was relatively flat and it took us circa five hours including a leisurely stop at the Vernon Arms in Southrepps.
Would highly recommend and would have received 5* if it wasn’t for that stretch of busy road.

19 Feb 2024A really enjoyable but long walk. Perfect for the cooler months as would not fancy doing this in the height of summer. This was over 30,000 steps so be prepared for a challenging walk.
The walk started along pavement from North Walsham to Swaffield where the route takes you onto a fairly busy road with no footpath. It was manageable but you need to be aware of potential oncoming tractors and fast cars.
The walk through the woods was muddy however we've had lots of rain recently which added to this. During dryer months it would be a nice woodland walk.
Just after Bradfield, before Southrepps the route is impassable so you have to walk along the road to the left before joining the route again.
Plenty of wildlife to be seen along the walk.
There are no facilities on route between North Walsham and Overstrand so go prepared with drinks, snacks and an empty bladder!
Finishes with a nice 2 mile beach walk with the views of Cromer Pier in the distance.
