13 Nov 2021Starting in Keighley, there is a long steady climb up suburban streets, passing older stone buildings, parkland, then newer housing. The climb continues on country roads with verges until Redcar Tarn, with its waterfowl, is reached. All the while, the views get better, as height is gained, and they are maintained for most of the walk. The quiet country roads are roughly level for a while, then drop and rise again, quite steeply, until a track through a field is reached. There are good views of Eastburn and Cross Hills before descending through woods. A stony and fairly narrow path takes you down to a tarmacked and flagged lane with housing. If you’ve timed it right, you’ll know when you’ve reached the main road by the distinctive smell from the traditional Yorkshire chippy! The road route into Cross Hills is straightforward and reasonably pleasant, although the pavements can be narrow in places.
