Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

26 Mar 2022A lovely route through real Devon countryside.
The route starts with picturesque Shobrooke Park before heading across a mix of lanes and fields to Raddon Hill. The hill was very windy when we visited but to be expected. The views are excellent on both sides. Lanes used are quiet and had very little traffic. Fields were generally not muddy except in one spot where we had to skirt around the mud. Boots made it all fine.
After Raddon Hill the route winds down into Thorverton using more lanes and across pretty green fields. Thorverton has a pub and a general store which we didn't try out but looked like would feed and water you well.
After Thorverton the route follows a faster road. Mostly 30mph limit. This is not ideal but unavoidable if you consider the crossing points of the river Exe. You can walk on the grass verge next to the road section. The route takes you past Exe Valley Farm shop - good breakfasts, lunches and coffees - before crossing the busy Exeter-Tiverton road and winding through quiet lanes into Silverton.
The Lamb pub in Silverton served us a lovely cider and hot chocolate before we caught the 55B from the town square to Exeter St David's and then the 5 from St David's to Crediton to complete the loop. About £8 in total bus fares each.

20 Mar 2022I walked the route in the Crediton - Silverton direction. This was a great walk through lovely countryside with some great views of the rolling hills. The highlight coming at the top of Raddon Hill with far reaching views of the surrounding area.
This route is mostly on footpaths and through fields with a couple short sections of quiet lane walking. There is however a short section of slightly busier road walking between Thorverton and the A396.
Plenty of possible pub stops along the route in Shoebrook, Thorverton and Silverton.
I got back to the start point using the 55B bus to Exeter St Davids followed by the 5B bus back to Crediton (trains also available). The 55B can also be caught in Thorverton if you are after a shorter walk. I would recommend checking the bus times before setting off.

03 Nov 2021A lovely, but hilly route. Mostly on paths.
