Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

31 May 2022This route took us from Cowbridge into Peterston, it started off on a pavement path under the railway and taking us up a short sharp hill onto a lovely section across open fields. The path led us to a private no entry sign, despite it being on the footpath! but we did a little road diversion which worked fine.
Unfortunately we then met the a bit f difficulty following the route! firstly the route came to a dead end in a small industrial unit yard and stables. The path actually veers right as you get into the yard and behind the buildings. Then the path takes a route between the buildings, then some holiday lodges and grazing paddocks. You then hit a gravel drive and have to go straight over it and heading slightly down hill. Then we met the REALLY challenging part! no real path, heavily overgrown and several fallen trees to negotiate. However once that part was dealt with (which took some time) then it opened into nice forest tracks and across some open fields before dropping down through some National Trust land which had lovely paths before reaching our destination. Could be a nice route but needs some maintenance and improved signage!.

29 May 2022This *should* be a really lovely route, but unfortunately the middle section is a nightmare! We ran this as part of the Slow Ways Swarm in May 2022 ... well, I say "ran" ....!!
The first section, from Cowbridge to Aberthin and Stalling Down, is all good. However the path going through the stables at Pant Wilkin is really difficult, there are fences and buildings over the line of the path. We eventually found a builder and asked, he directed us back onto the path! The entry onto the footpath in Coed Mynydd-Coch is obscured and difficult, the path itself is heavily overgrown for the first half. By the second half it is a pleasant path through the wood! This is really frustrating; it has the potential to be a truly lovely route but lack of maintenance, lack of use and non-existent signage have combined to make it really difficult.
Once out of the woods, there's an (illegally?) blocked path but it's an easy skirt round on the lane until you come to the paths around Crossways - which are not entirely clear on the ground but absolutely lovely once you've found them! it's plain sailing from there on to Peterston.
This was more of an adventure than planned and, currently, I can't recommend it - which is a great shame as it has the potential to be an absolutely lovely walk/run. Hopefully, one day .

12 Mar 2022Walking from Cowbridge, I gave up on this route on the path through Coed Mynydd-coch. As well as being easy to miss (unmarked and obscured by a fallen tree), it's extremely boggy and blocked by further fallen trees. It seems to be well-used by horse-riders, which makes it arduous to follow; I didn't get very far and don't recommend it.
