Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

30 Oct 2023October 2023. Direction: Cowbridge to Barry.
A good one. mostly on lanes and paths through fields. Reasonably easy to navigate and fairly well sign-posted. Some of the styles were in a poor state, so some care is needed in places. Also, a couple of the styles were a bit overgrown. It was a lovely clear day, but there had been a lot of rain in the days beforehand, so everything was wet and the ground was sodden in many places. There were several fields where the mud really stuck to the boots. Should be a great walk when the ground is dry.

17 Jul 2023Walked in two sections from Cowbridge to Rhoose and from Rhoose to Barry. A lovely rural walk that is well waymarked. There were a few areas that were a bit overgrown, especially round the edge of Cardiff Airport, but nothing too difficult.

18 Sep 2021The Barry to Rhoose section is easy, along the coast path; Rhoose to Cowbridge involves more careful map reading but is well worth the effort. Most of the route was marked and fairly easy to follow across the fields. Between Llantrithyd and St Hilary I recommend staying on the lane: the bridleway included a locked gate and a potentially muddy field, and one of the short footpath sections was blocked by corn.
