Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Walked from Cotgrave to Radcliffe. This route works, but is rougher and longer than COTRAD two, and the A52 crossing at the Radcliffe bypass needs care and patience. I found it an interesting walk nonetheless.

From Cotgrave we head down Hollygate Lane to reach the Grantham canal (there are shorter alternatives!). We then follow the canal left through the country park to Main Road, which has a good pavement on the west side. We follow the road right to the junction with Stragglethorpe Road, where we go right, initially on a good pavement then on verges beyond the old railway bridge (there is now a stairway here up to the old railway cycle track, so it is possible to switch between COTRAD one and COTRAD two here).

The footpath left has a sign that is not easily seen from the road, but it skirts the edge of the wood before crossing a field to a small bridge, then goes up to reach another wood. The path through the wood is good but can get a little wet and muddy. The A52 is reached easily, but crossing may demand patience as it is a fast busy road, and there is no central refuge here. At least the sight lines are good. We then use a mixture of alleyways and residential streets to reach Main Road, from where the rest of the route is a simple pavement walk to the railway station on Shelford Road.
