Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Apr 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)At the time of writing I understand the section of this route along the river Tyne from Corbridge to Riding Mill is still CLOSED due to a landslip at Farnley Scar.
An alternative via Prospect hill is available on the Northumberland County Council rights of way page.
The section of the route past Craghead Cottages & more immediately past the next property Redshawfoot passes through a an enclosed area of gorse bushes and is impassible on the actual right of way - very close local knowledge is required to negotiate a way through this patch & necessitates diverging from the right of way.
An obvious alternative is to carry on to the top of Lead lane where the current suggested route turns right off the road, and to cross the road immediately west of New Ridley and to continue along the lane to Apperly to where the current route meets the lane.
The route between Apperly and Wittonstall is understandable if someone needs to buy lunch at the Anchor Inn there, but crosses extremely boggy ground in the bottom of the Lynn Burn valley. An alternative would be to take the track ENE from Apperly to meet the Hedley Rd, follow this for a short distance up hill to the track at 072588 and to follow this track SE to c 084579 and rejoin the current proposed route at c 083577 via the SSW track, or at 088572 via the footpath winding in a broadly SE direction.
