21 Mar 2024A nice walk from Colne town centre to Trawden. Once you've left Keighley Rd and walked down Carry Lane and over Carry bridge, take the FP (metallic signpost on the road) just past the farm entrance. Beware, the steps can be very slippery in wet conditions, especially if you walking from Trawden to Colne. The route then goes up a farm track before heading up through several fields. I walk this route regularly throughout the year and have come across cows in the fields between May and October. The walk along Mire Ridge towards Trawden cemetery is OK - very few cars! The rest of the route using the GPX or the map is straightforward. On a clear day you'll have excellent views of Pendle Hill, Noyna Rocks and even Ingleborough on a very clear day!.

05 Aug 2022The route soon left busy Colne downhill to cross Colne Water. It turned up a walled and tree-lined, uphill lane, with paving slabs which I imaging could be slippery in wet weather. The steady climb up a tarmacked lane then several fields afforded excellent views back over Colne, with Pendle Hill beyond. There was a bench at the half-way highpoint, then a short bit of quiet road before reaching a series of footpaths down into Trawden. Just towards the end, at grid reference SD 91028 38746, the obvious route down steps around a garden wall, is not the one marked on the map, although a local told me the map route was a Public Right of Way, even though it went through someone’s garden. You would probably not even notice this slight diversion unless you were very closely following the GPS, so I don’t think this is a cause to fail this route, especially as it’s a beautiful 5* route otherwise.
