Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

A group of five walked this route from Worcester to Clifton. We took the morning bus from Clifton to make it a linear walk. The walk through the City of Worcester offers many opportunities to visit historic sites and refreshments. The walk continues along the river beside the racecourse into open fields.

Generally the walk was through open countryside along footpaths that were accessible and in accordance with the GPX route although some road walking was required. As it had not rained for some time no muddy ground was encountered.

A modification of the route further south along the Three Choirs Way when leaving Worcester could include a stop at Elgars birthplace at Broadheath Common for added interest and refreshment opportunities. This would add a mile or so to the route.

The route passes through the Cobhouse exactly half way. This provides a good rest stop with refreshments and toilets. The route continues to Castle Hill following a busy main road and was considered risky. We took the marked footpath across a field at this point to cut the corner avoiding the road.

The last few miles involved a steep climb of around 600 feet which at the end of a 12 mile walk was a challenge. Doing the walk in the reverse direction i.e. from Clifton to Worcester may be better.

Overall the walk passed through some pleasant countryside, through villages offering shops and some refreshments spots. We really enjoyed the walk as it had a good mix of terrain and we would certainly do it again.

Pleasant walk
Easy to follow and generally keeps to footpaths.
