Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

04 Jun 2023Nice walk which steers clear of the busiest roads. Generally easy to follow and mainly footpaths which are suitable for all.
Fishponds Road has a long steady uphill gradient. Beachcroft Road is a n attractive road with green space on one side and a variety of attractive houses on the other.
Crossing Trinity Road can be tricky, it's a very busy road. Also it's not that easy to spot the small dirt track across Wandsworth Common. I've added a couple of pictures of the start of the path to help you find it. If you were alone or it was dark you might not want to follow the dirt track part of the route, it's not lit and is quite overgrown. There are other paths across Wandsworth common that are tarmac and have streetlights.
I've driven alongside Wandsworth common many times and hadn't spotted how lovely sections of it are, it's good to take a slow walk!.

10 Mar 2022A predominantly pavement based Slow Way with only a brief muddy section when crossing Wandsworth Common. I started from Tooting. The route starts on the High Street but then leaves as soon as it can to join a series of residential side streets. I understand the reason for this from the point of view of having a quieter walk, but I felt like I missed the heart of Tooting and this version of the route misses the opportunity to connect with Tooting Bec tube station. Upon reaching Wandsworth Common, the route follows a wooded dirt track rather than a paved path. I felt like I wasn't walking in the nicest part of the common. Crossing the A214 was tricky as it is a busy road, and I had to rely on congestion to get the cars to stop for me to cross. Once the route joins the cycle path, it improves. The walk along Bolingbroke Grove is not unpleasant and the final combination of streets to Clapham Junction are very pleasant. Overall, this is a good walk, but could be better, particularly as a Slow Way. I think this could all be improved by a version which follows the main road.

27 Apr 2021This is a good route which is quite direct and takes in the expanse of Wandsworth Common. There is a sharp gradient to cross the railway bridge in the common.
