Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

20 May 2022I enjoyed the route. Walking it in May there was little mud and the roads, which although long were pleasantly quiet. A muddy section of a not well defined path near the river crossing at Chawleigh Barton Woods apart the route was easy to follow. Very nice views, a really nice country walk. The Earl of Portsmouth pub at Chawleigh was a welcome break and the host friendly and interested in local walks and in "Slowways". Food available.

09 Feb 2022This is a good route for walking between Chulmleigh and Lapford with plenty of charm... as long as you don't mind lots of walking down lanes and (after its been wet) some muddy sections.
It was a delight to arrive in Chulmleigh, with all its local and independent shops.
The route drawing could be a little more accurate in a couple of places, but it was fairly easy to stick to the route.
In Chawleigh you'll find a pub, Post Office/shop and public loos.
There are steps, bridges, gates and streams to negotiate, as well as some steep sections that were a little muddy when I walked this. If you don't like walking down Devon lanes with occasional tractors and cars, you might not enjoy this route.
I'm going to share a second route that skips Chawleigh Barton Wood. It was a bit boggy when I was there and the fields to the north of the Little Dart River were wet too. The alternative will go via Leigh Bridge and follow higher ground, which might make a better way for some people. It will miss Chawleigh though.
That all said, I really enjoyed this route and want to walk it again in other seasons. Loved the lanes, views, fields, woods, changes in paths. All good stuff.
