Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Dec 2024 Autumn

December 2024. Direction: Church Village to Cardiff.

I started out walking Chucar1, but ran into access problems leaving church Village, so this route was created to get around these.

The first one was in the new housing estate on Dyffryn y Coed, where the path should turn left after The Ridings at Church Village, and is no longer there. This route continues down through Dyffryn y Coed until it joins a footpath that links up with the cycle path running parallel with the A473 main road.

The second problem was where the Chucar1 route crosses the A473, which is no longer accessible. This revised route stays on the cycle path down to the Church Village roundabout on the A473, where it uses the footbridge for access into Efail Isaf village. The route then continues along the same route as Chucar1, except for one minor simplification just after Taffs Well, where it links up with the Taff Trail.

There is just one other slight issue at Ty Newydd Farm. The route follows the footpath straight up the field to the right hand side of the barn, which is totally overgrown, but there is an alternative route through or around the farm buildings to the left.

Otherwise, an excellent walk through varied landscapes.
