Description

Once you've followed Clifford Street south east through Chudleigh you climb Tower Hill out into the countryside and when the road bears left you join the footpath heading directly uphill. Bear left onto the lane (off right is an iron age fort) before bearing right onto another short length of footpath.
Turn right onto the back lane past Ugbrooke House, under the A380 and into Ideford village. The Royal Oak Inn in Ideford is a good place to pause for refreshments before heading on to Luton (a short 300 metre diversion in Luton and there's the Elizabethan Inn, another lovely village pub).
Back on the route you follow a couple of long byways with short stretch of minor road in between, the latter is Tree Tree Lane that leads you to the top of Little Haldon and Teignmouth Golf Course that you cut across on a footpath.
You then follow Shepherds Lane steeply downhill with commanding views of Teignmouth, Shaldon and the Teign Estuary. Eventually you reach the outskirts of Teignmouth and then follow back roads to Teignmouth town centre and Railway Station.
[N.B. This route avoids a rural stretch of the B3192 that ChuTei1 and ChuTei2 take. It is 60mph and busy and very dangerous for both walkers and cyclists]

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
