Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

17 Nov 2023I did this on my gravel bike as the majority of this is canal. Brown St is very residential, posed no traffic problems (as cycling faces more than walking imo). The towpath is wider along this section, and I felt safe on my bike passing dog walkers etc. A few steps/ ramps, but nothing id consider inaccessible, especially to people of able body. There's a pub at the end too.

17 Jun 2023Completed this on my gravel bike, would have been great to walk. A large section of the canal path was newly layed, stones...very hard to cycle, not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Passed my 2 nice pubs, lovely setting, The Malthouse, a lovely place to grab a pint or eat.
Also an old fashion red telephone box converted into a local book swop, for anyone on a long journey who would like a good read.
I would walk this route again.

17 May 2022An easy-going pleasant route, 80% of which is along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath, although perhaps this can get monotonous after a while when there isn’t much scenic variety. A few steep/stepped bits at bridges. An improvement to the route would keep you on the canal until The Top Lock Pub at Wheelton, rather than coming off sooner onto roads.

20 Aug 2021Nice route along the canal, some short sections will be pretty muddy in winter. Popular pub just as you get off the canal in Wheelton.
