23 Oct 2022I walked from Putney to Chiswick (Turnham Green tube).
I'm not sure I can add to Jane Taylor's excellent review, I can only agree. A lovely walk with lots of variety.
After quiet suburban walking there is the bustle of boats alongside the river with lots to see.
The path then crosses Barnes Common which has narrow muddy paths in places.
An alley way takes you to Barnes Bridge. Steps up to and down from the bridge across the Thames. The temporary path diversion on the north side of the bridge is still there, but there is a well marked short diversion. There is a riverside terraced walk, a walk through Chiswick Park and onto Chiswick Common to Turnham Green tube.
A walk with lots of variety and interest.

28 Apr 2022The southern route to Putney from Barnes. Greener than the northern but less of the river.

24 Feb 2022Five stars - longer than the other two options but very pleasant and walkable. Well drawn and easy to follow. Steps at Barnes Bridge, and mud on Putney Common, otherwise good paths and pavements throughout.
Starting at Putney I was pleased to turn off the High Street onto a quiet residential road almost immediately. On the way to the riverside I passed a row of cafes and a pub (The Half Moon).
After a short walk along the riverbank, view of Fulham football ground (photo), the route turns inland to follow the Beverley Brook, and then crosses Putney Common (mud, photo), and Barnes Common (photo). Footpaths and quiet roads to Barnes Bridge Station.
Cross the river on the railway bridge - there are steps here.
Coming off the bridge (photo) the riverside path on the Chiswick side is closed (temporary) for restoration work, but the detour is well signposted. Closer to Chiswick the route passes by Chiswick House, well worth a visit. (last 2 photos)
All in all I found this an interesting and well thought out route; less main road than the other options.
