Aamwalk
01 Aug 2023I walked from (Portland) fortunswell to chickerell on a pleasant July day. My intention was to walk route 2, but discovered the coastal path at Wyke Regis is currently closed for repairs (from 12th Jun 23 to circa 12th Dec 23) so you are directed along route 1. As there are already two excellent reviews for route 1 and 2 I will focus on very specific sections and adding more photos to give a sense of the path.
If you use the Chiswell start of the route you could remain on shingle beach to avoid the A345. This is more hard going, though you can come off at many points. Just remember to go to the road before the lagoon starts at the visitor centre at the Wyke Regis end.
Some of the paths are narrow and are being encroached on by the summer growth of brambles and other plants. Being tall and wearing trousers meant I could force my way through. But less easy if you are wearing shorts or have kids.
Some of the path entry points are also very well hidden which you only see when you are next to them.
When heading north through Littlesea Caravan Park use the OS map view on slow ways to follow the roads and as you approach the northern end go right along the fenced stream on the south side and you will get to the gate in the north east corner. It feels odd as you are walking close to the static caravans.
Overall an interesting walk with some great sections, but let down by narrow and over grown paths in places.

19 Feb 2023I walked from Chickerell to Fortuneswell and this is a nice walk with some great views of Portland and Chesil Beach. There were some mucky, muddy stretches despite having had decent weather for a while. There were quite a few parts where the route used narrow footpaths bordered by electric or barbed wire fences, which puts me off a bit, especially if it's slippery underfoot.
The footpath through Furzepath Farm wasn't pleasant, with electric fences on both sides, a moderate incline and muddy underfoot. Luckily on the day I walked the ground was fairly firm, but if it was wet this section would be horrible.
After this the route goes through Littlesea Caravan Park which is a bit of a maze and the signage is terrible, but if you can use GPS there won't be a problem. There is a shop and take away food places here, so it could be useful.
After this the route improved for me. I liked walking alongside the lagoon, which was peaceful, and the Portland Coast Path was nice, less peaceful, but there was plenty to look at in the bay. Once on Portland the route passed through the marina, then uphill and through housing estates (with amazing views) to the end.
There are places to eat and drink at the beginning, end, then at Littlesea, Ferrybridge, and the marina.

19 Feb 2023There was nothing wrong with this walk as such but for me too much of it was along tracks with either barbed wire or electric fences on both sides. Having said that, some nice views and walk along by the sea to be had.
