Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Aug 2024This walk started well with walks along the pavement in the town, this part is not particularly attractive. After a whole you head off into Woodland which is quite pretty. We followed the map but there was new fencing and when we got to the point in the photo marked by the bridge there was no way to proceed straight as the map suggested. We had to walk up onto the main road which had no path and was dangerous.

28 Oct 2021Enjoyable walk that minimises road walking until arriving in Brentwood and takes in different terrains en route.
Be aware that the path off Ongar Rd at Stondon is badly overgrown so better to walk along edge of adjoining field to the right of the hedge. You can still reach next path this way.
Once you cross the small bridge after the next section (see photo) there may also be an issue if the Nuclear Races are on (some weekends) as this bit is effectively the course route. Once through that there is a lovely wooded section up to Kelvedon Hatch. A downloaded (i.e. offline) map is very helpful to navigate through.
This only loses a star because of the long (but safe) last 2k of suburban road from Doddinghurst Rd onwards into town. There is no real alternative to that bit of the route but it is dull.

26 Aug 2024Hi Kate, I might have a think about alternative routes, I'm tested other local routes recently. I can't figure out where the fencing or the bridge are, can you help please. And if you have any local advice or ideas that'd be great too. Thanks Daisy
