Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

25 Aug 2024This route is gorgeous route combining quiet woodlands and fields paths.
Coming out of built up Chelmsford and into Galleywood past the quaint church was a real treat.
Past lots of farmers fields and particularly enjoyed the area of Stock.
The section at the b1007 crossings the a12 was not passable and needed adjusting enroute.

25 Aug 2024I enjoyed the walk from Chelmsford Wickford. Walking out of chelmsford didn't take long and we walked through galleywood in the Sunshine there were a few lovely buildings and fields the only main issue we had was at the roundabout near the a12 the path was really overgrown and not clear so we had to walk aorund the roundabout which was OK but probably not the safest! Stock was lovely and we met some lovely people on our way we finished in Wickford for the day overall I enjoyed it.

25 Aug 2024This is a lovely route taking you down from the centre of Chelmsford to Wickford. We spent a short time walking out of town but when we arrives through galleywood really started to open up some beautiful buildings and churches and amazing woodlands full of berries! There was one section at the roundabout as we approached the a12 junction the path was unclear so we had to make some adjustments to the path.
We walked through stock which was lovely and met a few nice people on the way and finished up in Wickford in good time.

28 Jul 2024A varied walk through the suburbs of Chelmsford, fields and a few wooded areas. Galleywood common is a very pleasant part of the walk though Stock Road is quite busy with no pedestrian crossings. The footpath towards Leather Bottle Hill (east of Stock) is narrow and overgrown with brambles but passable with care.
I took a detour into the pretty town of Stock which has some great restaurants, cafes and pubs (if a little pricey). The White Horse in Ramsden Heath is also worth a stop with a huge beer garden and popular for food.
