Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

I walked this from Kelsall to Chester. The path out of Kelsall starts well, but as the walk progresses, was terribly overgrown, but passable, in places. I encountered a series of gates tied together which I had to climb over. Further on, the path and infrastructure wasn't very well maintained and I encountered an electric fence which required two handles disconnecting in order to get through. Beyond Tarvin, and its supermarket the walk improved greatly. The path was much easier to follow and the surroundings seemed more condusive to a relaxing walk. Once I got to Great Barrow things got even better as I'd joined the Longster Trail which seems better used and maintained. Beyond Guilden Sutton there was a lot of lane walking which was safe enough, but not something I really enjoy. The last section into Chester, links up with the bus network and then follows the Shropshire Union Canal, before a short section of city centre walking. Overall, safe, reasonably direct, not accessible as there are stiles, but easy to follow. Enjoyable? In parts. Maybe the key would be to walk it slowly and make the most of the shops and the pubs.
