Description
This a good way to walk between Chapeltown and Hoyland. It's a mix of woodland, country, golf course, suburban and urban walking.
It's very similar to Chahoy One and Two, but takes a shorter way through Tankersley Park

23 May 2024I walked from Chapeltown to Barnsley covering 3 Slow ways. This was the first of the day, with no problems climbing out of town or crossing the golf course. After going under the M1 I had some difficulty as the horse pasture on the right had deep mud. Having negotiated that and crossed the bridge to the field, there was another scramble through overgrowth to proceed. After that the rest was fine, nice woodland and fields to reach Hoyland.

18 Mar 2024We walked it Hoyland to Chapeltown direction in Sept 2023. A pleasant and varied walk. A bit tricky to find the underpass under the M1 - you have to go straight on to a signposted mud path when the gravelled path goes to the right.
I'm never very confident crossing a golf course but we managed to join a large group of walkers at that point so felt safe.
A good way to explore an area we were not previously familar with. The buses from Sheffield to the start and finish points worked well and ran to time.
One rather muddy bank - but only a short stretch. Most was good flat paths.

08 Jul 2023The meeting place is good and the library, closed on the day of my visit has three wonderful chairs upholstered in OS map fabric. It's road walking at the start passing the attractive mill pond and Inn at Milton. A footpath links to the cycle route which then offers easy walking through woodland. The Slow Way continues on a footpath and after a nice cross field we cross the motorway. The path over the golf course was overgrown but the exit point was signed. Crossing the road a cycle barrier offers an off road path before a pavement through an industrial area. The route drops down to the meeting point at the station which also has buses to Sheffield but no inviting seating.

10 Sep 2022 (edited 11 Sep 2022)Walked from Chapeltown to Hoyland as the first of a four route 14 mile walk finishing at Royston. This route is fine, with a few minor problems. Most of the first mile is on pavements.
The A616 crossing is busy, and there is no central refuge, so patience is required. The path on the far side is not signposted - it is immediately opposite but turns left almost immediately. The golf course crossing starts OK, but I may have lost the path near the motorway fence and ended up having to negotiate tall nettles with bramble shoots.
After the motorway, we follow a lane but soon leave it on a little used path going right. A path develops, but beware of following it too far left - it leads to a well defended fence and the way out of the field is as marked on the OS map on the right side of the field. A little bridge leads onto a wide open grassy field - again the way out takes a bit of spotting but there is a sign.
The rest of the route into Hoyland is fairly straightforward, though at the A6135 a degree of confidence is required to follow it through a haulier's yard. At Stead Lane the continuation path is further right than the map suggests, and there is one shortcut path that is barely worth bothering with.
The final walk along the pavement to Hoyland is up quite a steep hill, but there are no steps, and it is worth looking back at the views.

17 Apr 2022 (edited 19 Aug 2022)This is a good Slow Way with a fair amount of diversity. The crossing of the A616 can be tricky when it's busy.
The actual route across the golf course does not match where the right of way is, but there is a path.
This route goes to the south of Old Hall Farm, which include a narrow footbridge, stiles and muddy sections when it's wet. Going on the lane through the farm may be more accessible.
