Description
This route is similar to the Charing Cross Holborn route one, but takes into account the feedback from the two reviews so far, amending the crossing point for Kingsway so that it uses the safe lights at Kingsway/Holborn, rather than at Parker Street where there is no safe crossing

06 Oct 2024 (edited 07 Oct 2024)A good route! Not going to repeat the other reviews. But:
a) There's no crossing on The Strand at the bottom of Bedford Street (see photo) but there are two or three between there and the station. Not that serious but it could be a pain for wheelers who started at Charing Cross.
b) St Pauls in Covent Garden has a nice garden (photo 2) with many benches and is generally quiet bar weekday lunchtimes in the sunshine. Or there's a handful of picnic benches on the far side of the market building (photo 3) near Russell St where you can listen to the street performers and people-watch the tourists.
I had some time to kill around Covent Garden so I also walked/created another ChaHol which mostly avoids the crowds and has a little less vehicle traffic.
Strider
25 Aug 2023I walked from Charing Cross to Holborn.
Busy bustling, touristy, entertaining, shops, museums, distractions and the odd surprise.
Reasonably direct and easy to navigate.
A good city walk.

08 Aug 2023Mostly this route was very busy with tourists, on a sunny Sunday in August, particularly around Covent Garden (where I made a detour to visit the London Transport Museum). There were a few quieter bits further north, including where I passed a shy little art deco cinema which was pointed out to me by someone photographing it. The route was all very nice, and also accessible.

07 Aug 2023 (edited 09 Aug 2023)Walked from Charing Cross to Holborn. A good safe quick direct route.
The route takes is through back streets and mostly avoids the roads with heavy traffic, and is entirely on pavements. It is full of interest and passes through Covent Garden, but it is very busy with pedestrians throughout, so it is not quiet. My only criticism is that the GPX file is full of little wiggles, which rather suggests that it is a GPS trace rather than a drawn route.

24 Jun 2023Walking around London is made far more pleasurable using routes like this one. The obvious route down Kingsway and along the Strand is busy and uninspiring. This route is easy to follow and stays well away from the main roads. Convent Garden can be very busy with people, so you can continue along Shelton Street, cross Long Acre and then use Garrick Street to avoid the biggest crowds.
Lots of cafes along the route is need sustenance. At Charing Cross recommend the amazing social enterprise Social Bite for a great coffee that supports their work ending homelessness in the area.

15 Sep 2022Nice route through the busy heart of Covent Garden, some pedestrianised bits. We walked on a balmy September evening when everyone was outside all of the many historic London pubs, drinking pints under hanging baskets - very enjoyable!.

23 Apr 2022Not a lot to add to the other views - if you like the bustle of London, you'll love this one - I did!.

12 Apr 2022Good efficient route through Covent Garden.
The street choices mix up quieter backways with some of the main strips through Covent Garden, so expect many people, street performers, queues for cafes, and pavements blocked by all these things and, of course, delivery vehicles.
Like any central London route, there is a high likelihood that some building work will be happening somewhere on the way.
No hesitation recommending this one.

10 Feb 2022Really enjoyed walking this route in the evening- the best time to walk in central London in my opinion. No difficulties whatsoever- this would suit walkers and wheelers. Lots to see on the way.

11 Dec 2021A perfectly great route connecting Charing Cross and Holborn. Great London walking. The area around Covent Garden can be pretty busy, especially in late-week evenings!.
