Description

Not necessarily better, just different. The main reasons for creating this route were fewer crowds and include Covent Garden’s outdoor shops in Southampton Street. It uses the streets I would normally take between Charing Cross and Covent Garden and then some of the quieter roads and some pedestrian footways towards Holborn. Sometimes it avoids overlapping with ChaHol 2 purely for variety but on both routes it's never long before you come across something new be it a curious shop, street entertainers, a historic titbit, statue, church, unexpected greenery, and more.

This will probably appear on the Slow Ways website as 1 km longer than ChaHol but that's just an odd rounding effect. The true difference is only 130m.

If you are wheeling from inside Charing Cross Station the north western exit is best (and closest to this route) as it has no steps, cobbles or escalator

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
