Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

We walked this route today from Selby to Cawood, there had been heavy rain over the weekend so mud was to be expected. Overall the route was ok to follow with way marked paths apart from the field before heading into Wistow as previous walkers have said but you can see the village ahead of you and follow the tram/tractor lines straight across the field. As the path comes out of the housing estate to Charles street you can just go straight over the road and pick the path marked up again to walk alongside Cockret dyke.

Not great: as per the previous reviews you need to detour for quite a distance along a farm track due to the actual RoW going across a planted field with no trace of the path. The waymarking is also pretty poor and access for those who are less mobile or with a wheelchair/pushchair is pretty bad: many of the paths used are along the edge of fields and are uneven.

I walked this on 1st October from Selby to Cawood after and during rain. I had difficulty finding route on the outskirts of Selby near a new housing development so ended up detouring via roads to rejoin path before crossing very muddy field. This was a good route but not so great when it's wet.

The right of way between New House Farm and Wistow is not maintained and runs right across a field that is either planted right across with crops leaving no path or is a muddy rutted hellscape, depending on the time of year. Some other sections of the route between New House Farm and Selby are not well maintained and are in a poor state.

The route between Wistow and Cawood is a good quality path.

Overall a good route - the footpath going out of Wistow off the road towards Selby goes straight over a field and has not been left marked by the farmer but following the farm track works fine.
