Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

08 Jun 2024I live very close to this route and there’s no way I would choose to walk along the poisonous South Circular for even the shortest time. If you’re going to go this way get the 202 bus!.

14 Nov 2023You can walk this route but why would you?
90% of it is alongside the A206 / South Circular Road, one of the most congested roads in London with notoriously terrible air quality. It's not even the shortest possible route.
The "off road" part is largely along Edith Nesbit Walk, a no-then-low-traffic footpath then lane. Most of that is adjacent to the A2 - another incredibly busy and noisy road. It's also used in BlaElt 1 and one reviewer felt isolated and unsafe - I'm happy to use it myself though, except late at night.
On the plus side this route is direct, legal and accessible (probably). Don't expect it to be "enjoyable and beautiful". I am "not recommending" it on safety grounds to protect your lungs and your peace of mind.

26 Apr 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)This route is direct, flat and easy to navigate. I think it would be the quickest and easiest route between catford and eltham. However this is due to it mostly following a couple of large busy roads. While in London you are obviously mainly going to be on roads I would personally take a longer less direct route using smaller roads in the future as it wasnt particularly nice to walk along.

07 Jul 2021I have been thinking much the same about this route as the South Circular is very busy and noisy even when other roads are quiet. I have another route in mind that is along residential roads and even goes through a couple of parks, so I'm going to upload it and see what people think.
