Description

This is longer than Carbro one but a safe and viable route which I have drafted with the help of two walking friends resident on Skye. A lot of it is off-road and much of it is a highly scenic walk with many views of the Cuillins. Parts of it are shared with the popular, informal Skye Trail. I have walked most of this route myself but not all, so cannot leave a review until I do. The only part of the route that none of us has walked is the section through the Glen Brittle forestry. This was plotted using a current Forestry route map for Glen Brittle, and a 'Walk Highlands' map of a walk in the area, so should be accessible.

From Carbost, the Slow Way takes a quiet minor road up to Eynort and routes through the Glen Brittle forest instead of using the minor road up from Carbost used by Carbro one which is often unpleasantly trafficky with visitors to the Fairy Pools. From there it takes the same path to Sligachan as Carbro one, but once it reaches Sligachan, routes south down Glen Sligachan to Camasunary instead of using the dangerous main road. From Camasunary it picks up a path over to Kilmarie and the remaining route to Broadford is a mixture of off-road paths and some miles along a highly scenic and much safer single track B-road with passing places which has light traffic and generally good sightlines.

There is a hotel and camping at Sligachan, a bothy at Camasunary, a bunkhouse at Torrin and wild camping options. Buses go both ends and from Sligachan

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
