An alternative route to CanLew1 between Canada Water and Lewisham which avoids most of the busiest main roads between Surrey Quays and Deptford Broadway.

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

15 Dec 2023Very much in agreement with the other comments. This is a very enjoyable way of walking between Canada Water and Lewisham. It is mostly along footpaths and cycleways which is quite an achievement in London! It is also a good way of exploring parts of London you wouldn't normally go to. Highly recommend.

08 Mar 2023 (edited 13 Mar 2023)Very enjoyable, although tempered a bit by wet feet and frozen fingers. I was right to be optimistic about this route, my expectations were exceeded. It links a chain of parks and docks and uses riverside paths and generously landscaped footways through residential areas. There's barely any road walking. You can see sculptures, murals, local history displays or drop into a community orchard. Shop for African textiles, Vietnamese groceries, Indian street food, craft beer or drop into to Deptford Market. The wildlife is very diverse too, you might see even see the shy kingfishers on the Ravensbourne if you are lucky.

10 Apr 2022I walked this route from Lewisham to Canada Water. After a very unpromising start - busy, major roads and a bus terminus to negotiate, things improved significantly as I walked through quiet back streets and estates, and a series of green spaces, including alongside the Ravensbourne and around Greenland Dock. Plenty of shops and other facilities at either end of the route.
