Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Sep 2024NOTE: It is not possible to complete this walk before 1pm most days due to restricted access on the Newmarket Racecourse section!
Walked this route in two halves over a couple of weekends as it is a long way to do in a day - and not that interesting. There are long sections along or near roads, especially the bit between Swaffham Bulbeck and Newmarket, which a best a bit boring and at worst potentially dangerous, although there are grass verges to stand on. I've proposed a more peaceful and slightly shorter route as Camnew two.
There are nice parts, especially the bit along the river into/out of Cambridge, the more wooded area around Anglesey Abbey, and Quy Fen, but I'm not sure I would walk most of this route again. There are a few parts with stairs/kissing gates which would make it as a whole unsuitable for wheelers.
