Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

05 Nov 2023 Autumn

We walked this route in November 2023. Easy to follow and generally good quality paths or tracks. Nice walking through fields with good views. It had been wet, so in some places the path was quite muddy, and in two places around Bourne covered by running water. In one place (the footpath leading north west to Brook farm as you walk into Bourne) we were forced to turn back, but there are multiple easy alternatives around there.

20 Jun 2023 Spring

A very pleasant walk, taken in mid June 2023 when the weather had been warm and dry. Not suitable for wheel chairs but otherwise fairly flat, using a combination of footpath, dirt track and quiet country road. Most of the route is via fields, so not much shade on a sunny day and could get muddy after a lot of rain. No major obstacles, although you are advised to keep to the track (past Colton) as you pass by a firing range. I used the Short Ways app with a downloaded map and this worked perfectly and kept me on track. No major refreshment options en-route although there is a good farm shop in Bourn, towards the end of the route.

18 Jun 2021 Spring

The section from Coton to Long Road is very boggy and slippery after rain. Last time I walked that section I struggled and a companion had to turn back for the sake of her small dog who simply couldn't manage the depth of the mud. Good but weather-dependant.

23 Apr 2021 Spring

I haven't quite walked all of this, but I did most of it in Oct 2020, and it's a lovely path. (I had a deadline to be at Cambourne before the car dealer closed so, finding the old route across Bourn Airfield was no longer an option, had to stride vigorously along a less picturesque but slightly shorter northern route for the last bit from Highfields Caldecote to Cambourn. The Bourn route shown is much nicer if you're not in a hurry!).
